Alissa Dunn was born in West Germany in 1973 near the American military base where her father was stationed. Her mother, a music teacher, always encouraged Alissa to use her mind and be creative. “My mother always allowed me to use my imagination. It came in handy in the days before video games and the Internet.”
She met her husband when they were in high school together, and they married about a year after graduating. They still reside in the hometown where they met.
Even since her early years in grade school, Alissa has enjoyed writing stories. While in middle school, she won third place in Cherokee County, Georgia’s Young Authors’ Fair for a haunting story entitled, The Secret of the Golden Box. She is the author of The Unclaimed Christmas Gift.
Alissa specializes in writing fiction stories that carry a positive and encouraging message. “I would love to bring a message that can change someone’s life. If I can help to change even one person’s life for the better, then all of my hard work has been worth the effort.”
She is a Christian, and enjoys using her talents to help others to see hope and encourage them to have faith in Christ for a better future. She taught Sunday School classes at her local church for a few years, and has also organized charitable drives at her work to obtain donations for the Dekalb County, Georgia battered women’s shelter.
Since the release of her book, The Unclaimed Christmas Gift, she has increased her giving by organizing a drive in her community to provide new books to children living in Cherokee County, GA foster homes. 125 new books, including 40 autographed copies of her own book, were donated.
